Reliance Industries Limited has taken a pioneering step in industrial construction by reinforcing the flooring section of their factory in Jamnagar, Gujarat, with StrataWeb® geocells. This project, executed by Pragati Infra Solutions Private Limited in collaboration with L&T, highlights the transformative impact of geosynthetic solutions in enhancing industrial infrastructure.

Project Overview
Faced with the challenge of reducing subgrade pressure and achieving even load distribution, Reliance Industries Limited sought a robust and efficient flooring solution for their Jamnagar facility. Strata Geosystems provided the ideal answer with StrataWeb® geocells, an innovative geosynthetic technology designed to strengthen and stabilize industrial flooring.

Solution Implementation
StrataWeb® geocells were selected for their superior load-bearing capabilities. When filled with non-plastic material, these geocells form a rigid structure that significantly improves stress-strain characteristics. Technical Advantages of StrataWeb® Geocells
Effective Load Distribution: StrataWeb® geocells’ three-dimensional structure confines fill material, preventing lateral spread and enhancing soil retention, which ensures a stable foundation.
Enhanced Structural Modulus: The unique indentation and perforation pattern of the geocells create bending moments that are effectively resisted by their vertical walls. This results in a semi-rigid mat that distributes imposed loads over a larger area, significantly enhancing the layer modulus.

Performance Analysis
A detailed analysis, using the theory of elasticity and assuming a two-layer soil system, revealed impressive results:

  • Top Layer Pressure: The pressure at the top of the 175mm thick non-plastic granular material reinforced with StrataWeb® geocells was 6.21 tons/m².
  • Base Layer Pressure: The pressure below the geocell layer was calculated at 4.88 tons/m².

These results confirm that a single layer of StrataWeb® geocells, filled with non-plastic material, effectively reduces pressure on the base layer, thereby increasing the foundation’s strength and stability.
