“From Roots to Rise: How MAN Structurals Became a Global Infrastructure Powerhouse” From its origins in steel manufacturing to its role in shaping sustainable infrastructure, MAN Structurals has evolved from a traditional family-run enterprise into a diversified global force. Guided by the forward-thinking leadership of Gaurav Rungta, the company has seamlessly expanded into sectors like telecom, renewable energy, and international markets—while staying firmly rooted in its principles of engineering excellence, environmental responsibility, and a people-first approach. A Legacy Rooted in India’s Industrialization.

For Gaurav Rungta, Managing Director of MAN Structurals, manufacturing isn’t just a business—it’s a legacy that spans generations. The story traces back to the late 1800s, when the Rungta family migrated from Rajasthan’s Shekhawati region to Mumbai and ventured into multiple industries including sugar, textiles, and steel. A major turning point came in the early 1940s when Sir Mirza Ismail, then Prime Minister of Jaipur, invited the family back to Rajasthan to accelerate industrialization in the region. This marked the genesis of what would later become one of India’s leading structural engineering firms.
In 1960, the Rungtas entered the steel manufacturing sector, leading to the birth of MAN Structurals. By 1970, the company had carved a niche in transmission tower manufacturing, playing a crucial role in building India’s power infrastructure.

Turning Challenges into Opportunities
The early years were far from easy. The company faced a lack of skilled designers, inconsistent steel quality, and unclear engineering specifications. However, MAN Structurals turned these challenges into opportunities by collaborating with international experts and local rolling mills to develop specialized steel solutions. “A typical 220 kVA tower that once weighed 30–35 tons now weighs just 12 tons”. Gaurav Rungta, highlighting how technological evolution has reshaped the sector.

This drive for innovation was again demonstrated in the 1990s when India’s telecom revolution began. At a time when companies like Siemens and Ericsson imported telecom towers from Europe, MAN Structurals became the first domestic manufacturer to supply them locally. Their infrastructure now supports major telecom networks across Northeast India and Jammu & Kashmir, including those used by the Indian Army.

Embracing Green Innovation and Diversification
Staying ahead of the curve has been central to MAN Structurals’ growth strategy. As renewable energy gained momentum, the company quickly established a solar structure manufacturing facility with machinery imported from Europe and China. It later diversified into windmill towers, railway electrification, and turnkey infra-structure projects.

Today, the firm boasts an annual manufacturing capacity of 75,000 tons, a sharp rise from its humble beginnings at 6,000 tons. With a new high-tech plant in Jaipur and another under planning in the Middle East, the company aims to double capacity to 150,000 tons. Their decision to invest in cutting-edge robotic galvanizing technology during the pandemic was initially met with skepticism. But when post-COVID infrastructure demand surged, MAN Structurals was already prepared.

Systems Over Individuals
The pandemic also brought a moment of introspection. “If we were struggling, imagine what our people were going through,” Rungta recalls, as the company ensured full salary payouts without cuts.

This period reinforced his belief in building a system-driven organization.
Heavy investments in automation followed, along with collaborations with ITIs to bridge the skill gap. “Automation doesn’t eliminate jobs; it creates demand for specialized skills,” he affirms.

A Sustainable and Future-Ready Vision
Sustainability forms the backbone of MAN Structurals’ long-term vision. Nearly 45% of their energy needs are met through rooftop solar. The company operates as a Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) facility and even has a sewage treatment plant that converts ocean water into drinkable water. Hazardous chemicals like hydrochloric acid are neutralized responsibly, and the team is closely tracking India’s push for green hydrogen as a clean energy alternative.

Strengthening Global Footprints
MAN Structurals is steadily expanding its international footprint, exporting to Africa, Central & South America, and the Middle East. Their exports currently contributing 20–25% of total revenue. A flexible pricing strategy enables the company to balance domestic and international demand smartly.

Beyond Manufacturing: Building a People-First Culture
At its core, MAN Structurals thrives on a people-centric philosophy. The company has one of the lowest attrition rates in the industry, driven by a culture of trust, empowerment, and recognition. “Quality is non-negotiable, and customer loyalty is built over time,” Rungta emphasizes.

With a rich heritage, forward-thinking leadership, and a strong global vision, MAN Structurals is poised to lead India’s next wave of industrial growth—scaling new heights while continuing its legacy of nation-building.
