India’s Longest Funicular Railway at Shri Malanggad, Maharashtra
The Funicular Railway at Shri Malanggad (Haji Malang) in Kalyan, Maharashtra, is a landmark mobility infra-structure project designed to improve access to one of the state’s most visited pilgrimage destinations. Spanning approximately 1.17 km, it is recognised as India’s longest funicular railway system.
The project was conceived to address the challenges faced by pilgrims and tourists in reaching the hilltop shrine, which traditionally required a steep climb of over 2,600 steps.
